Description

This hearty savoy cabbage beef bake transforms humble ingredients into a comforting one-pan meal with tender cabbage layers and seasoned beef—perfect for family dinners with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef (85/15 ratio)
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large savoy cabbage head, chopped
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef for 6-8 minutes until browned. Break it into small crumbles.
  3. Add onion and cook for 4-5 minutes. Stir in garlic, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, diced tomatoes, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened.
  5. Spread half the chopped cabbage in the baking dish. Add the beef mixture, then top with remaining cabbage. Press down gently.
  6. Mix panko with olive oil and shredded cheese. Sprinkle over top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 more minutes until golden brown and tender.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with parsley before serving.

Notes

Swap ground beef with turkey for a lighter version. Use Gruyère cheese for a gourmet touch. Substitute vegetable broth for a lighter taste.
