- 2 pounds lean ground beef (85/15 ratio)
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large savoy cabbage head, chopped
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes with juice
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet, cook ground beef for 6-8 minutes until browned. Break it into small crumbles.
- Add onion and cook for 4-5 minutes. Stir in garlic, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in tomato paste, diced tomatoes, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened.
- Spread half the chopped cabbage in the baking dish. Add the beef mixture, then top with remaining cabbage. Press down gently.
- Mix panko with olive oil and shredded cheese. Sprinkle over top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 more minutes until golden brown and tender.
- Let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with parsley before serving.
Notes
Swap ground beef with turkey for a lighter version. Use Gruyère cheese for a gourmet touch. Substitute vegetable broth for a lighter taste.
