Description

Bring back comfort food classics with this hearty Cheese and Tater Tot Casserole—an easy, satisfying dish packed with crispy tots, gooey cheese, savory beef, and nostalgic flavor. A weeknight favorite the whole family will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs frozen tater tots
  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey/plant-based meat)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables or 1/2 cup diced bell peppers

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Brown ground beef in skillet. Add onion and garlic halfway through. Cook until beef is browned and onions are soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in soup, sour cream, 1 cup cheddar, Worcestershire, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Layer half of the frozen tater tots in the baking dish. Spread meat mixture over top. Add remaining tater tots on top.
  5. Sprinkle with remaining cheddar and mozzarella.
  6. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until bubbly and golden. Broil for 2 minutes if desired for extra crispiness.
  7. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier version, use Greek yogurt, lean meat, and add vegetables. Homemade or cauliflower tots can substitute for frozen ones.
